Skylight Installation in Surrey, Hampshire & Berkshire

Why Skylights

A well placed skylight changes a room completely. It brings in natural light from above, the best kind, brightening spaces that no wall window can reach and making smaller rooms feel a lot bigger. Camberley Glass & Windows has been supplying and installing skylights across Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire since 1965. We supply flat rooflights, pitched roof skylights and aluminium rooflight systems to domestic and commercial customers across the region.

No commission sales staff, no pressure. A short visit, a written quote, and installation by our own employed team.

Why Natural Light Matters

Light from above is completely different from light through a wall window. It spreads evenly across the whole room, gets rid of dark corners and feels more like daylight than artificial light ever can. The benefits are well documented: better mood, improved sleep, increased productivity, and spaces that simply feel better to be in. A skylight is one of the most cost effective ways to achieve that in an existing property.

Cutting your reliance on artificial lighting also reduces your energy bills over time, which makes a well specified skylight an investment that keeps paying back.

What to Look for in a Skylight

Not all skylights are equal. The main things that separate a quality installation from a problematic one are:

  • Thermally broken frames, essential for preventing condensation and heat loss
  • High performance glazing, look for low U values and solar control options for south facing installations
  • Slim sight lines, the less frame you see, the more sky you get
  • Quality weatherproofing and flashing, a poorly flashed skylight will leak
  • Professional installation, the product is only as good as the fitting

Skylight Options and Features

We offer a wide range of options to suit your specific situation:

  • Fixed or opening configurations, opening vents improve summer ventilation significantly
  • Manual and automated opening systems
  • Solar control glazing, reduces heat build up in summer without sacrificing light
  • Self cleaning glass, reduces maintenance on hard to reach installations
  • Acoustic glazing, useful for properties under flight paths or near busy roads
  • Frosted and tinted glass options
  • Full RAL colour range for frames

Types of Skylight We Install

Aluminium Flat Rooflights

Flat roof skylights

Flat rooflights sit flush within a flat roof and are the most popular choice for extensions, kitchen extensions and garden rooms. Our aluminium flat rooflight range features slim sightlines, high performance glazing and thermally broken frames, meaning they look good and perform well all year round. Available in a full range of sizes and RAL colours to suit your property.

Pitched roof skylights

For properties with a pitched roof, a roof window or pitched skylight lets you bring light into loft rooms, stairwells and top floor spaces without major structural work. We supply and fit pitched roof skylights to suit all common roof pitches and tile types, with options including fixed, top hung opening and centre pivot opening configurations.

Roof lanterns

If you’re after a raised glass structure for an extension or orangery rather than a flush rooflight, a roof lantern may be what you need. Roof lanterns sit above the roof line and create a three dimensional glass feature that floods the room with light from multiple angles. See our dedicated roof lanterns page for full details

    Frequently Asked Questions

A skylight or rooflight sits flush within the roof plane. A roof lantern is a raised glass box structure that sits above the roof line, typically on a flat roof extension. Both bring natural light into a space, but they suit different situations and give a different look. If you’re not sure which is right for your project, give us a call and we’ll talk it through with you.

Most skylight installations on existing roofs fall within permitted development rights and don’t require planning permission, provided the rooflight doesn’t protrude more than 150mm above the roof plane and sits at least 150mm from the eaves. Listed buildings and properties in conservation areas may have additional restrictions. We’re happy to advise when we visit, but if you’re in any doubt, check with your local planning authority before work begins.

Cost depends on the type of skylight, the size, the glazing specification and how complex the installation is. A straightforward flat rooflight installation will cost less than a large pitched roof skylight with automated opening. We always provide a full written quote before any work begins, so call us on 01276 684444 or use our contact form to arrange a no obligation visit.

Most standard skylight installations are completed within a day. We’ll give you a clear timeframe when we quote so you can plan accordingly.
